The Cyprus Institute of Neurology & Genetics is an internationally recognized Centre of Excellence offering specialised services, translational research and postgraduate education in the fields of neurology, genetics, biomedical and medical sciences. This is probably the most successful model nowadays as it combines education, service and innovative research activities in one centre, providing major medical benefits to the people, society and the country. Our main aim is to improve continuously in order to lessen the suffering of patients and their families and prevent diseases through patient care, research and educational programs on neurological and genetic conditions such as muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, chromosomal abnormalities and all other aspects of molecular biology and genetics such as thalassaemia, molecular virology, mental retardation, cardiovascular disease, stroke, cystic fibrosis and neurogenetics. Moreover, CING plays a key role in the fight against crime by providing specialized DNA services to the police authorities and expert court testimony for criminal and civil investigations.

We are currently seeking to recruit a Neurologist to be based in the Institute’s premises in Nicosia, Cyprus.
What you will be doing:
• Support the Institute in the diagnosis and treatment of complex neurological diseases
• Have the opportunity to order and study the results of para-clinical studies to determine the nature and extent of the diseases and to supervise medical technicians in the performance of neurological diagnostic or therapeutic activities
• Consult with patients to determine the appropriate course of treatment and will also liaise with other health care, medical/non-medical, professionals regarding patients’ conditions to ensure that all patients’ needs are met
• Carry out specialist clinics and laboratory sessions (neurophysiology, neuropathology, and neurovascular
• Participate in academic meetings with neurological colleagues for learning and development and to discuss cases as a team, drawing on the expertise of other specialists
• Have the opportunity to initiate, design and submit applications for the funding of original research projects for which he/she is the principal investigator, as well as to seek external sources of funding and submit the approved applications to the appropriate funding bodies
• Carry out the research funded by the institute and by outside sources, aided by his/her scientific staff and to make his/her own plans for publication
• Participate in the academic activities of the Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine, including teaching in the CSMM programs, and will supervise MSc/PhD students
What you need to have:
• A Medical degree with a subspecialty in Neurology
• A recognized board certification in Neurology
• License or eligible for license from the Pancyprian Medical Association
• Fluency in both Greek and English, written and spoken
• Good diagnostic skills to determine the type of disease or condition, its severity and extent
• Excellent problem-solving and clinical decision-making skills
• Ability to work alone and in multidisciplinary teams
• Familiarity with research methods and a willingness to keep up to date with advances in treatments
• Strong leadership ability
